This Nigerian boy had never left the country. So why did he suddenly sound British?

The struggling parents of a young boy woke up one day and discovered that their 9-year-old son had suddenly started speaking with a British accent. Prior to this, their son had never visited the UK, nor did he watch English movies. 😳

The parents were sure he must have been demon-possessed 🥺. According to them, from birth, he had a hole in his heart & ever since then, this child had not “allowed them rest.”

All attempts to cure him spiritually proved abortive. He was beaten severely and ridiculed at school, with everyone believing it was intentional, but he wasn’t budging. What was going on?

Being a regular cardiology patient, his parents brought him to the clinic for his follow-up appointment. His British accent was noticed, and it thought he was joking around until his parents mentioned he was not. 😟

It was immediately clear what this boy might have just had—a stroke! They were asked to do some imaging scans, and true to what was thought, there were signs of an ischemic stroke.

How was this obvious?

FOREIGN ACCENT SYNDROME. 😩

This usually occurs after a brain injury (most commonly a stroke). We knew he had a hole in his heart, which could cause the formation of blood clots that travel to the brain and cause a stroke.

Please, if anyone you know suddenly develops a foreign accent( like the German, French, British, when they haven’t ever visited there) , don’t just think it’s a joke or that it’s intentional, especially if they say it is not. It might be a sign of a brain injury. 🙏🏽

Foreign Accent Syndrome, though rare, is something that should not be treated lightly. It must not be a country’s accent. It can be talking in a different way from normal. Treat as urgent.
